I have noticed on the CGMR database that there are HARDs who were born in Mahé, so I wondered if maybe she was part of the family there, although there were HARDYs born in 1874,75 & 76 so this is unlikely. My other thought was if she was born outside Mauritius, would I be able to trace her through passenger ship's logs from ships going to Mauritius. However, I do not know how to access these. Would they be kept in the National Archives?
I would welcome any comments and suggestions that people have which might help me knock down this brick wall.

I found the following entry in from the civil status index KL 12 1871-1880 (All Districts) which has not yet been transcribed by our volunteers: Birth of Marie Elizabeth Léna HARDY on 05/12/1874 in Port-Louis Reg 4 Folio 542. This could be the one you're looking for as the year could match. There is also a Marie Léona Aricie born in Port-Louis on 19/11/1878 in Port-Louis Reg 3 Folio 12. There is no Marie Elizabeth Angèle Léona in the register.

I am guessing her name given name Léona, which I know is correct, has been misrecorded in the record and I guess too that at baptism the name Angèle was added. My husband has asked his brother today to go to the civil status office in P.L. to see if he can obtain her birth and marriage certificates. I am asking him to ask for a copy of the original documents rather than have transcriptions, so fingers crossed!
