Preparing my research visits

You will need to make a trip to the Civil Status Office closest to your home. You also need to have the correct names  and surnames of the ancestors being researched, the district where the act was first registered, the type of act and the approximate date. You will be given a copy of your request with a date and time to collect the desired certificate after you have brought a MUR25.00 stamp.

It is no longer possible to research the indexes at the Mauritius National Achives before proceeding the the Civil Status Office.

If you are lucky, the CSO personnel will have found the information requested when you call after a few days. You will be asked for a MUR25.00 stamp for each certificate and you will go back home happy with the requested information.
