What you need:

  • Immigrant name and number of ancestor (primary details)
  • Documentary proof of authentic lineage between requestor and immigrant ancestor

Note: You may find your ancestor's primary details:

  • Birth certificates of first generation of descendants of immigrants (available at the Central Civil Status Office Port- Louis)
  • Notary deeds for property acquired by immigrants, or children (where applicable)
  • Marriage certificates of immigrants

How to proceed

Requests for information can be made by:

1-  Email, Fax or by post (Resident citizens)
Documents required: Digitised copies of relevant Birth and Marriage Certificates of ancestors;

2-  By Phone
You will be required to produce and submit copies of relevant Birth and Marriage Certificates of ancestors at the counter of the Archives Section at the time of collection of arrival certificates.

3-  Calling in person at the Archives Section
Applicants, calling in person, need to produce and submit copies of Birth and Marriage Certificates of ancestors.

Note: Applicants will be notified by the officers of the department of the exact date for collection of information and they have to call in person or send an authorized representative (with a letter) at the counter of the Archives, to collect the transcribed information sheet. National Identity card/passports have to be produced at the counter for the issue of information.

4-  From abroad
After submission of relevant Birth and Marriage Certificates of ancestors (by Email or Post), the transcription forms will be attested by the Head of Department and  will be sent by post.

 

Time schedule for Issue of Certificates

The issuing of information shall be effected within 5- 7 days after the application for information has been submitted by the legitimate applicant. Certified copies are issued within 3-5 days after requests.
