Civil Status Registers are kept at the Civil Status office, for period post-1810. The Civil Status Indexes (1811 -1961) used to be available for consultation by the public  at the Mauritius National Archives. Following complaints from the Mauritius National Archives personnel, all requests for that period must now be addressed to the Civil Status Office.

For period between 1811 and 1860, Civil Status indexes have already been digitised by the CGMR and is in the process of being transcribed into the database. Civil status entries  and indexes for that period are not currently available for consultation. Recently, further to an agreement between Civil Status office and National Archives, a copy of registers of indexes have been transferred from Port-Louis to Coromandel.  For the period 1839-1860, only the index for Flacq was currently available.
